Volunteer Firefighter Requirements
With a large response area that includes rural and suburban homes, railways, industrial facilities, farms, mountain trails, and the Potomac River, CMFC volunteer firefighters are highly trained and respond to a variety of emergencies each year such as house fires, large field fires, vehicle accidents, train emergencies, hazardous material releases, trail and river rescues, etc.
As a CMFC volunteer firefighter, you will have unique opportunities to develop a broad range of fire and rescue skillsets while serving as a valued member of our engine company, rescue squad, truck company, and/or swift water rescue team.
Minimum operational volunteer firefighter training requirements include:
- Background check
- Physical exam
- GearUp Orientation Course
- Online annual Frederick County compliance training
- Online FEMA independent study courses (ICS 100, 200, 700, and 800)
- CPR certification
- PPE and SCBA Course
- Hazardous Materials Operations Course
- Firefighter I
All training courses are provided to CMFC operational members free of charge through the Maryland Fire and Rescue Institute (MFRI).
